Welcome to our site! This website is intended to provide detailed information about the Continuous Liquid Level Sensor senior design project for the senior engineering capstone course, AME412, at the University of Arizona during the 2007-2008 academic year. Information about all aspects of the project can be obtained using the links listed below. Our Mission Statement, Functional Requirements, and Constraints listed provide a brief introduction into the problem that this project will be addressing. We welcome any questions or comments and would love to hear your feedback!

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to create a durable, cost-effective, continuous liquid level sensor that can accurately measure all kinds of liquids in containers independent of the container's uniform cross-sectional area.

Functional Requirements:

  • Sense the level of liquid in a container continuously.
    • Measure height in any container, regardless of uniform cross-sectional area.
    • Select technology/materials to be compatible with all liquids.
    • Operate for pressure environment up to 32psi (1.2 SF).
    • Produce analog 0 to 5 V output.
    • Tolerate non-uniform surface of liquid level.
    • Obtain level measurement within 3 millimeters.
    • Adjust input power to match input sensor parameters.

Constraints:

  • Cost per unit should be less than $100 when purchasing a 1000 qty.
  • Must be able to measure in vibration environment
